Cause of crash clarified with German support

On June 10, Malawi’s Vice President Chilima was killed along with eight other passengers in a helicopter that crashed into a mountainside.
The causes were investigated with the support of German experts. It was established beyond doubt that there were dense clouds and heavy turbulence. In addition, the helicopter was from 1987 and many of its instruments and technical equipment were outdated and had not been maintained to the necessary extent. Finally, the search for the missing aircraft was also delayed because the transmitter had not been working due to a faulty battery since 2004.
Speculation in the meantime about other causes and other apportionments of blame are therefore pointless.
